Chargers Hunt for a Wild Card vs 49ers: Week 16 Free Pick

The Chargers will be trying to stay alive in the playoff race while the 49ers attempt to play spoiler and ruin the fun.

Chargers vs 49ers

December’s been a hard month for the Chargers (8-6), losing first to the Pats then to Denver last week.

But not as hard as San Fran’s defeat last Sunday at the hands of Seattle.

The 49ers (7-7) were ejected from the playoff race, and no one was really surprised considering the disappointment they’ve doled out this season. (I think those new coach rumours we’ve been hearing all along are becoming more and more likely.)

Managing a measly 13.8 PPG, San Francisco’s offense has all but given up.

The linebackers that had been carrying them for most of the season are getting thinned out by injury, and there’s more talk about Harbaugh than about the team’s performance.

You can bet San Diego’s going to flex it’s defensive muscle against SF (mostly to compensate for their own offensive shortcomings lately). They could only scrap together a combined 17 points from the Pats and Broncos in the past two weeks, so don’t expect this one to go OVER any time soon.

Most bettors are thinking the same thing, with 63% on the UNDER and the total set at an uncertain 41.5.

San Francisco is the 2 point home favourite here, but 68% of bettors aren’t convinced and took SD to win.

The Chargers do have history on their side in this #SDvsSF matchup though. They’re 3-0 SU and ATS in their last 3 meetings with the 49ers.

If they can limit SF’s play-action pass and take full advantage of the holes in the linebacker lineup, they might be able to pull off an underdog win here.

And SD needs that to happen (among other things) in order to clinch that AFC Wild Card spot.

The 49ers though? Better luck next year with your new coach boys.

Our Pick:

Take the UNDER
