Our top 25 college football week 3 recap shows that the best bets were again on underdogs, at least in the top 25 against the spread. Also three teams are out of the top 25 college football week 3 rankings as we move to week 4.
Top 25 College Football Week 3 Results
#1 Alabama vs #19 Ole Miss 48-43
Alabama was listed as a 3 point favorite for this game. This game proved that Alabama does not deserve to be #1 in the nation, Ole Miss showed it and we predicted this game could be an upset. It almost was. The Tide covered the spread on this one, and still the AP Polls list them as #1 for Week 4. Ole Miss moved down 4 spots to #23.
#2 Florida State vs #10 Louisville 20-63
The #2 spot has changed every week. This week will be no exception as Florida got pounded by Louisville. This was the biggest upset, and we predicted it last week. Derwin James not being in the game seemed only a small part of the defeat. Florida gets backed in the AP polls to #13 after this game.
#3 Ohio State vs #14 Oklahoma 45-24
Ohio State was a -1 point favorite to win the game. This meant linemakers were enthusiastic about Oklahoma. This definitively places Oklahoma out of the title race. Oklahoma moves down to #25 and Ohio States moves up to #2 in the AP poll ranking for week 4.
#4 Michigan vs Colorado 48-28
After a 21-7 lead by Colorado in the first quarter, they just ran out of gas. Michigan stays solid at #4 for week 4 in the polls
#5 Clemson vs South Carolina 59-0
No mercy in this game as the Tigers blanked the Bulldogs. The Tigers remain at #5 for week 4 in the polls.
#6 Houston vs Cincinnati 40-16
The Cougars are still in business. Houston as the previous two teams holds it position in the top 10 of tthe AP polls for week 4.
#7 Stanford vs USC 27-10
Stanford was idle last week. They came in as a -6 point favorite and easily handled USC. This was no blowout as previous matches we have mentioned but they continue unbeaten. Remaining at #7 for week 4, Stanford is 2-0 and still has to prove some.
#8 Washington vs Portland State 41-3
Washington’s adversaries are the ones keeping them in the top 10, but also not advancing in the ranks. Also at -42 points spread, they did not cover. Washington drops one spot to #9 for week 4.
#9 Wisconsin vs Georgia State 23-17
Georgia State gave -35 point favorite Wisconsin a run for their money. The result of this game sent the Badgers to #11 in the AP poll ranking for week 4.
#10 Louisville played #2 Florida State
#11 Texas vs California 43-50
The Longhorns were -7 point favorite. It all came down to one thing: the Longhorns defense could not stop Davis Webb and his target Chad Hansen. And all hell broke lose. Almost 100 points in this game. Controversial refereeing also was invloved in this game. With the loss Texas drops to #21 for this week.
#12 Michigan State vs #18 Notre Dame 36-28
Well Michigan Stae barely covered the spread set at -7, and have moved themselves into the top 10 at the #8 spot for week 4. Week 4 will be ienteresteing since oth Michigan State and Stanfor at #8 and #7 respectively have only played 2 games. There will be lots of moving after week 4 games.
#13 Iowa vs North Dakota State 21-23
Iowa has been kicked out of the top 25 after losing to unranked North Dakota State. The Hawkeyes were a -14 point favorites. As an interesting fact, the Bison have now won six consecutive games against FBS teams dating back to 2010.
#14 Oklahoma played #3 Ohio State
#15 Tennessee vs Ohio 28-19
As a -27 point favorite you expect more from the Vols, but such is the story in football. The win allows Tennessee to move up one spot in the AP rankings.
#16 Georgia vs Missouri 28-27
This is one of the reasons why I question the AP polls. Watching Georgia, and how they played, they should not advance to the #12 position for week 4. Guess some folks are looking at things differently. Still the -7 point favorite Bulldogs did not cover but advance as a 3-0 team. Watch out for Mizzou next year.
#17 Texas A&M vs Auburn 29-16
Even as the line showed Auburn as a -3 point favorite, the Aggies pulled this one. Guess the odds were based on the Tigers defense. A&M moves seven spots up to #10 for week 4.
#18 Notre Dame played #12 Michigan State
#19 Ole Miss played #1 Alabama
#20 LSU vs Mississippi State 23-20
LSU came into the game as a -13 point favorite, and barely survived by 3 points. As many other teams we have mentioned before them, they are going up in the ranks up to spots at #18 for week 4.
#21 Baylor vs Rice 38-10
As a -31 point favorite the Bears were dissapointing against a fierce Owls squad, who held them scoreless in the first quarter. Baylor fails to cover for the third week in a row, but they are is still 3-0. This allows them to move up five spots to #16 for week 4.
#22 Oregon vs Nebraska 32-35
Another upset in the top 25 group, as the -3 point favorite Ducks, lost to the Cornhuskers. The result places Oregon out of the Top 25 and Nebraska jumping in at the #20 spot for week 4.
#23 Florida vs North Texas 32-0
The Gators who came into the top 25 ranings last week, continue to climb. As a a -34 favorite they did not cover. Still beating the Mean Green allowed them to move to the #19 spot, up four notches in the rankings.
#24 Arkansas vs Texas State 42-3
The Razorbacks were -30 point favorites in the game, so they did cover. The win also allowed Arkansas to move up seven notches to #17 for week 4.
#25 Miami vs Appalachian State 45-10
The Hurricanes as -4 point favorites did cover. This week they also advance in the polls ten slots to the #15 position for week 4.
Nebraska at #20, San Diego State at #22 and Utah at #24 enter the rankings for week 4.
Iowa, Notre Dame and Oregon are out of the top 25.
