The UFC 201 card on Saturday night features Lawler vs. Woodley, as two of the hardest hitting welterweights meet.
Lawler vs. Woodley a Match to Watch
Robbie Lawler will be defending his belt against Tyron Woodley. As he has done previously, Lawler odds to win this UFC 201 main event are -145 to Woodley{s +155.
These odds might be deeiving and interesting at the same time. So we have some point os consider when betting on this card:
- ESPN’s Brett Okamota mentions in his preview: “According to Fightmetric, Lawler has absorbed 642 strikes since the start of 2014. He’s gone five hellacious rounds, back-to-back-to-back. When do these wars catch up? Lawler is 34 in human years — and probably something like 112 in fighter years.” I guess it comes a time when a body just will not go further.
- Woodley is, relies mostly on his right hand. if he can keep the distance and place it on Lawler these odds could then not be that accurate.
- Lawler expects a shorter night than his previous matches. If Woodlwy holds heavy on to the fifth round things might get tough for the champ.
- Woodley won on a split decision over Kelvin Gastelum in January 2015 but has not fought since. His fight against Hendricks in October was cancelled because Hendricks had complications during the weight-cutting process. So yes, gyms are not fights, this may go against Woodley.
Lawler on the fight
“Woodley has tremendous athleticism, brings a lot of technique – well-rounded fighter,” Lawler said. “I expect him to wrestle, move around, [know] that wherever the fight goes, he feels safe. But I always feel like I’m able to put the fight where I want it to go. Five rounds is a long time to find your way around it.”
Woodley on the fight
“Robbie brings a lot to the table,” Woodley said. “He shows a lot of hardened fights and … you have to fight through those things – matching my skill set versus his skill set and just being prepared to go out there for five rounds to fight hard and do what I do best.”
