Boxing Round-up – Isaac Cruz vs. Eduardo Ramirez – Event Review and Fight Analysis

Isaac Cruz vs. Eduardo Ramirez

Our Pick: Isaac Cruz

Outcome: Isaac Cruz brutally knocks out Eduardo Ramirez in the second round

Isaac Cruz made another strong statement.

The Mexican slugger stopped countryman Eduardo Ramirez at 2:27 of the second round of a scheduled 10-round lightweight bout on the Andy Ruiz Jr. vs. Luis Ortiz card Sunday in Los Angeles.

Cruz had some trouble cornering an elusive Ramirez in a relatively uneventful opening round.

However, that changed in an instant midway through Round 2, when Cruz put his countryman down and hurt him badly with a perfect left hook to the chin.

The worst was yet to come for Ramirez, as Cruz attacked his wounded prey viciously until a three-punch combination put him on his pants again.

That was enough for referee Jack Reiss, who didn’t hesitate to stop the fight to save Ramirez from further punishment.

The Aftermath: Isaac Cruz asked for a title match after his victory over Eduardo Ramirez.

Cruz, who is ranked No. 5 by The Ring, has won his last two bouts since losing to Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis on December 5.

With Davis at ringside, the pro-Cruz crowd began chanting ‘We want Tank’ and would boo Davis anytime his image appeared on the big screen above the ring.

The 24-year-old Cruz is hopeful a fight against Davis does take place, but he did offer another opponent when he was asked after the fight who he would also like to fight; Devin Haney.

Haney, who is the Ring Magazine lightweight champion and undisputed lightweight champion, is facing George Kambosos, Jr. in a rematch on October 16.

Once that match takes place, we will see what comes Cruz’s way.
