Between tomorrow and Thursday’s preseason game we will know for sure if the Saints defense has changed to what they showed today.

Lovers and Haters of Saints Defense

For the haters you have quite a compilation of Why Your Team Sucks by Deadspin for the Saints, and there is quite a compilation of nasty stuff.

On the other hand for Saints lovers we saw them today stopping the Patriots (favorites to win the Division, Championship and even the Super Bowl), yeah those same guys.

  • Both Brady and Garoppolo were intercepted once.
  • Defense was participant in most of the 8 drops suffered by New England.
  • There were plenty of sacks: Edebali and Obum Gwacham had two. and Bobby Richardson had another.
  • Drew Brees completed 21-of-25 passes. Tom Brady completed 7-of-11 and Jimmy Garoppolo was 7-of-15.

It is too early to determine anything, but if tomorrow’s practice and Thursday’s game stay in the same tune, the Saint might be into something.

“Confidence-wise, going forward, you should know, when you can execute against the best in the league, just imagine when you go against the 30 other teams that don’t have the same caliber of quarterback,” safety Roman Harper said.

“Everybody is feeding off that,” defensive end Kasim Edebali, who had a pair of sacks, said. “You have a good day and the next day you come out with confidence and a good attitude. You get better and better, and that’s what we’ve been doing. We’re progressively getting better. It’s great.”

What do you think?
